MAGNUS DUO IMPRESS
As any stallion owner would attest the public are very quick to judge the performances of the progeny represented on the track by first season sires. To have two representatives in the first black type race in Victoria the locally based Magnus was under the microscope (pictured).

Kicking off the business end of the 2 year old racing season with the Listed $100,000 Herald Sun Super Racing Stakes (1000m) the racing and breeding community were glued to the screen to see which of these youngsters would impress. Most certainly Robert Crabtree, Yallambee Stud and Eliza Park had a vested interest in the race as the first of the Magnus 2 year olds were lining up against the countries future young hot shots and was represented by two starters: the Anthony Freedman trained Magnusificent who had already strutted his stuff at Cranbourne trials on 19 September and first time sighted Imprimis trained on course at Flemington by Mick Cerchi.
What turned out to be a front runner’s race, there was a Magnus at both ends of the field. Racing a little greenly with head up at the front was Imprimis who ran on impressively to come second by half a length behind the $300,000 More Than Ready colt Combaiso. This lovely filly was sighted and noted by many potential buyers at the 2010 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale. Consigned by Supreme Thoroughbreds the filly was knocked down for $55,000 to Bulla Thoroughbreds and has proven at her first start she was worth every cent.
Equally impressive was the well named Magnusificent who ended up out the back of the field battling to find a way forward with Craig Williams finally resigning to the fact the only way out was to round up the pack on the outside… and round them up he did. With a blistering run home Magnusificent will remain of interest to punters and breeders alike.
Both Imprimis and Magnusificent look like they have inherited the toughness and talent of their sire in Magnus. With a start as promising as this and a superb pedigree, it looks a good opportunity to book into Magnus this season before the horse has bolted so-to-speak.
