Never Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth

The idiom loosely means “not to criticise or feel doubt about something good that has been offered to you”.

I’m sure we all agree that this is very good advice.

Take heed of the suggestion and do yourself a favour by having an earnest look at the Premier 2 horses up for grabs at Inglis sales complex, Oaklands on Thursday 1st March.

This year the bar at the Melbourne Premier Sales has no doubt been lifted; both in standard of pedigree, and if our draft is any indication, also by type. As a result there has been a knock on effect of the standard of Premier 2 yearlings.

Yearling Sales - P2 Jess & Cas Perusing through the final section of the Inglis catalogue there are several yearlings that are from, or halves, to group and listed performing horses (36 at a quick count). The general standard of some of these families makes for some very interesting and impressive reading. Of the 175 horses listed I would suggest a surprisingly high percentage of these youngsters would have sailed into Premier 1 Sales in recent years.

Again drawing on our sample group of seven yearlings in the second session NOT ONE is ugly, in fact NOT ONE is even plain looking and they all have above average conformation;  each of them has something worthy to say about their pedigree.  Chatting to stud peers, this mantle is also upheld throughout their drafts of Premier 2 yearlings.

It seems to me opportunity abounds, so do not criticise or feel doubt about what Premier 2 has to offer. Have a good look at these yearlings and seize the chance of acquiring a great racehorse in the making.

Lot 630 Magnus x McCune colt: a big walking second foal from a daughter of LISA’S GAME ($432K & 2nd in VATC Caulfield Cup G1 etc.) and with Magnus over a Bel Esprit mare he makes an interesting reversal on the Black Caviar bloodline.

Lot 642 Kaphero x Noble Glow filly: An extremely impressive type by a first season sire in Kaphero from a mare that has 2 to race for two winners.

Lot 655 Magnus x Princess Baxaar colt: Another good style of colt by Magnus from a mare with two winners from 2 starters. Princess Baxaar is the half-sister to HK-3 winning Flying Spur gelding, SAPELLI ($943k in stakes earnings) from Listed placegetter Ishkala (nz). Pedigree Update

Lot 656 God’s Own x Prism Lass colt: The only God’s Own in the catalogue and a great type at that. Prism Lass has had 2 to race for two winners including a character loaded half-brother to the very smart Cristello (Testa Rossa) 2nd Listed MVRC William Crockett S.

Lot 682 Magnus x Silver Jubilee colt: From a half-sister to Cannibal King (G3 winner and multiple stakes placegetter) Silver Jubilee has produced three winners including 2 metropolitan winners from four to race.

Lot 691 Magnus x Sprites Delight filly: First foal from the mare, and a spunky filly with big attitude and a body that suggests she will jump and run.  The family has produced PAY MY BAIL (Top filly on the 2003-04 NZ 3yo Free H.)

Yearling Sales - Lot 734 Magnus x BlowLot 734 Magnus x Blow colt: Smashing type with some nice listed pedigree updates from Blow’s producing sisters. This colt will be very popular as he looks and acts like a racehorse.  (Pictured) Pedigree Update
